WWF Canada: Protecting Nature and Wildlife

Our Mission and Vision

WWF-Canada is the country’s largest international conservation organization. Guided by scientific analysis and Indigenous knowledge, our mission is to conserve species at risk, protect vital habitats, and address climate change. Our long-term vision is to create a world where both nature and people thrive.

Addressing the Biodiversity Crisis

The planet is facing a serious biodiversity crisis, with global wildlife populations having declined by 60% on average in the last 40 years. Nearly half of Canada’s wildlife populations are also in decline. WWF-Canada actively works to reverse these trends and protect native species across the country.

Protecting and Restoring Habitats

Eighty-four percent of Canada’s habitats with high concentrations of at-risk species are not properly protected. We partner with local and national organizations to conserve ecologically crucial regions, create networks of protected areas, and restore native habitats, ensuring a hopeful future for Canadian wildlife.

Combating Climate Change

The climate crisis threatens the future of our planet. WWF-Canada leads nature-based climate solutions by reducing greenhouse gas emissions, promoting adaptation, and increasing resilience to ongoing climate changes. Our work supports both people and nature in the face of environmental upheaval.

Innovation in Conservation

We harness leading-edge science and technology, such as artificial intelligence and drones, to fill data gaps and protect vital habitats. Our innovative approaches help us tackle complex conservation challenges and find effective solutions to secure species diversity across Canada.

How You Can Help

Everyone can take action for nature:
  • Join the Climb for Nature event and reach new heights while supporting wildlife in 2026.
  • Tune into our "This is Wild" podcast to learn more about Canadian species.
  • Participate in habitat restoration projects and help plant native species.
  • Support Indigenous-led conservation initiatives with your donations.
  • Leave a legacy for wildlife by including WWF-Canada in your will or symbolically adopting a species.

Your Impact Matters

Thanks to supporters, WWF-Canada has planted healthy native plants, funded Indigenous-led conservation, and mapped Canada’s carbon landscapes to find tonnes of stored carbon. Every contribution helps protect threatened species and habitats, moving us closer to a thriving future for nature and people.

Support WWF-Canada

You can make a difference. Whether through monthly or one-time donations, your support helps ensure Canada’s wildlife and natural spaces are preserved for generations to come. Together, we can gain ground for nature and safeguard the wondrous diversity of life in Canada.
