What else should I know about Violence Prevention Initiative of Newfoundland and Labrador?

The Violence Prevention Initiative of Newfoundland and Labrador is a government-community partnership coordinated by the Office of Women and Gender Equality to find long-term solutions to violence against people most at risk. Its Indigenous Violence Prevention Grants Program supports Indigenous governments and organizations working to prevent violence experienced by Indigenous women, children and 2SLGBTQQIA+ individuals in the province. In the funding ecosystem, VPI is important because gender-based violence prevention requires sustained, community-led work, not only justice-system responses after harm occurs. Grants can support culturally grounded education, healing, engagement of men and boys, safety planning, outreach, awareness and local prevention projects designed by Indigenous communities themselves. This funding helps organizations address root causes, build trust and strengthen protective networks. By combining provincial coordination with community grantmaking, VPI turns policy commitments on violence prevention into funded local action that can reduce risk and improve safety.
