Grant and Funding Programs Offered by Timmins and District Hospital Foundation (TADHF)

The Timmins and District Hospital Foundation is the official charitable arm of Timmins and District Hospital in Northeastern Ontario. As a registered charity, it raises and allocates funds to purchase medical equipment, upgrade diagnostic and treatment technologies, and support capital improvements that are not fully covered by provincial government funding. Since 1990, the Foundation reports having contributed over $55 million to enhance specialized care at the hospital.

Donations and sponsorships received by the Foundation are directed to high-priority needs of the hospital, specific program areas, or major capital projects. This can include equipment for emergency and critical care, surgery, maternity and newborn services, oncology, dialysis, diagnostic imaging, mental health, rehabilitation and other clinical services that serve a regional catchment area of more than 110,000 residents.

The Foundation operates a broad portfolio of fundraising and funding mechanisms. Individuals and corporations can make general donations, in memoriam gifts, monthly contributions, planned gifts such as a gift in a will, or gifts of securities and in‑kind items. Dedicated initiatives like the Hospital Hero program, Buy a Brick, Christmas card campaigns, and in-honour donations allow donors to connect their giving with personal experiences of care.

Signature community events and 50/50 lotteries also play a major role in generating revenue for priority hospital equipment and capital projects. The Foundation then transfers these funds to Timmins and District Hospital to enable purchase of new technology, replacement of aging equipment and improvements to patient spaces.

The Foundation emphasizes transparency and efficient use of funds. It publishes audited financial statements and newsletters, and is governed by a volunteer Board of Directors that includes community representatives and hospital leadership. A professional staff team manages donor relations, campaigns and administration.

Through the “Giving is Receiving” donor wall and recognition programs, the Foundation honours individuals, businesses and organizations that make significant cumulative contributions. Event sponsors and major supporters are publicly acknowledged, reinforcing accountability and long‑term relationships with the community.

By funding hospital needs beyond government resources, the Timmins and District Hospital Foundation helps ensure residents from Timmins, neighbouring communities and remote northern areas have access to up‑to‑date equipment and quality hospital care close to home. Its work directly affects emergency and inpatient services, surgery, diagnostics, maternal and child health, mental health and many other programs.

Although it does not run open grant competitions, the Foundation functions as a dedicated funding body for one healthcare institution, continuously channeling community philanthropy into concrete projects that improve patient outcomes and healthcare capacity across the region.
