Grant and Funding Programs Offered by The Seaforth Highlanders of Canada Foundation

The Seaforth Highlanders of Canada Foundation is the dedicated charitable foundation supporting Vancouver’s Seaforth Highlanders infantry regiment. Operating from the Seaforth Armoury in British Columbia, it exists to raise and steward private funds that complement the Department of National Defence budget. Its mandate is to honour and preserve the regiment’s history and to support the broader regimental family through targeted financial assistance.

The Foundation directs funding to key affiliated entities, notably the Seaforth Museum & Archives, the Seaforth cadet corps across the Lower Mainland and Sunshine Coast, and the Pipes & Drums. These contributions help cover non-military and heritage-related expenses such as museum operations, cadet equipment and travel, band activities, communications, and public engagement efforts that fall outside regular government support.

The Foundation’s revenues come from several complementary sources. Core support is provided by the Seaforth Patrons Corps, a circle of individual donors who make an initial major contribution and optional annual gifts to sustain cadet, band, and heritage initiatives. Additional income flows from endowments held at Vancouver Foundation, including funds dedicated to the regiment, cadets, band, and commemorative purposes, as well as community donations from alumni, families, and the public.

Donors can give through cash, bequests, registered assets, publicly traded securities, life insurance, and in some cases historical artefacts for the museum collection. Model testamentary wording is provided for gifts by will, and official tax receipts are issued, with arrangements available for US donors via Vancouver Foundation. This mix of direct giving and endowed funds underpins ongoing financial support for multiple projects over time.

The Foundation’s beneficiaries span the regiment’s extended community. Funding assists the Seaforth Museum & Archives in conserving artefacts, improving displays within the armoury, and running education programs for students. Support for the Seaforth cadets helps equip and grow several corps, enabling hundreds of youth to participate in Canada’s cadet movement. Assistance to the Pipes & Drums preserves traditional Highland music and enhances the regiment’s ceremonial presence at community events.

Through these interventions, the Foundation reinforces regimental identity, honours past service, and enhances public understanding of military history in Vancouver. While it does not operate open public grant competitions, it functions as a discretionary funder for internal and affiliated initiatives aligned with its mission to preserve heritage and sustain the Seaforth regimental family.
