Role in the Funding Ecosystem
The Eva Leflar Foundation is a community-focused private foundation that has been providing financial support to children and youth in the Owen Sound and Grey/Bruce county area since 1990. Founded by Eva Leflar, a long-time resident of the area, the foundation aims to provide opportunities to children who might not otherwise have access to extracurricular activities, education, or medical care.
Funding Areas
The foundation supports programs and organizations in four main areas:
- Recreational: Sports teams, camps, and physical activity programs
- Educational: Scholarships, bursaries, and educational programs
- Cultural: Music, theatre, choir, and arts programs
- Medical: Healthcare services and equipment for children
Eligibility and Application Process
The foundation accepts applications from registered charitable organizations that serve children in the Grey/Bruce area. Applications are reviewed semi-annually, with deadlines on March 1st and October 1st each year. The board evaluates applications based on benefit to disadvantaged children, organizational strength, and fiscal responsibility.
Impact
Since its founding in 1990, the Eva Leflar Foundation has contributed over $2 million to support local children through schools, hospitals, sports organizations, cultural groups, and other children's organizations in the community.
