Role in the Funding Ecosystem
The Envy Sports & Education Scholarship Memorial Society is a community-based memorial organization that bridges the gap between youth, education, and athletic opportunity in the Haldimand-Norfolk region. Founded in memory of Duane William Evans, the society operates as a dual-purpose funding entity: it awards scholarships to post-secondary students and provides financial support for children to access organized sports.
Funding Areas
The organization concentrates on two primary funding streams: (1) scholarships for Hagersville Secondary School graduates entering post-secondary education, with preference given to students who demonstrate a passion for sports; and (2) contributions to the Canadian Tire Jumpstart program specifically directed to the Haldimand-Norfolk chapter to enable children's participation in team sports.
Scholarship Program Details
The ENVY Awards are granted annually to students from Hagersville Secondary School. Awards typically range from $500 to $1,000, with most recipients receiving $1,000. The scholarships recognize both financial need and commitment to athletics. A complete list of recipients from 2010 to 2024 is publicly documented on the organization's website.
Community Impact
Since its founding in 2010, the society has donated over $15,500 in scholarship funding and more than $66,300 to Canadian Tire Jumpstart (including matching contributions from local Canadian Tire stores). The organization raises funds through annual events including the Envy Classic charity golf tournament and the Envy Ride & Roast Weekend charity motorcycle ride.
