Role of the Damascus Road Foundation in the Funding Ecosystem
The Damascus Road Foundation is a Canadian private foundation dedicated to accelerating the proclamation of the Gospel of Jesus Christ to the least-reached people groups of the world. As a grant-making foundation, it supports registered Canadian charities engaged in evangelism and church-planting activities among unreached and unengaged people groups (UUPGs), which are defined as ethnolinguistic groups with less than 5% Christians and less than 2% Evangelical Christians, with no known active church planting underway.
Funding Priorities
The foundation's highest priority is supporting evangelism and church-planting efforts among UUPGs. Its secondary priority focuses on unreached people groups (UPGs) that have some church planting activity but remain less than 5% Christian. The foundation also shows preference for Frontier People Groups (FPGs) with less than 0.1% Christians.
Preferred funding areas include geographic regions where local funding for evangelistic efforts is unavailable, projects led by local people, and work where evangelism is the primary focus. The foundation also considers Bible translation, internet and radio evangelism, and missionary training projects when clearly focused on UUPGs, FPGs, or UPGs.
Eligibility and Application Process
Eligible organizations must be Canadian registered charities approved by Canada Revenue Agency, with a minimum annual revenue of $500,000. The foundation does not fund non-Canadian organizations unless they partner with a Canadian registered charity. Grant sizes start at $50,000 per year and generally do not exceed 10% of an organization's previous year's revenue. Funding may be approved for up to 3 years.
Granting Cycles
The foundation operates three annual granting cycles: April 2026 (inquiries due January 2, 2026), October 2026 (inquiries received March 8-May 22, 2026), and January 2027 (inquiries received July 26-October 9, 2026).
