Grant and Funding Programs Offered by The Aki Latvala Foundation

The Aki Latvala Foundation is a volunteer‑run Canadian charitable foundation created to honour the legacy of Aki Latvala, who was deeply involved in supporting children and youth. The foundation mobilizes a community of donors through events such as golf and curling tournaments and channels the proceeds to registered charities working with children and young people in vulnerable situations.

Operating primarily in Ontario (Greater Toronto Area and National Capital Region), British Columbia (Kelowna) and Nova Scotia (Parrsboro), the foundation focuses on organizations that deliver critical services to children and youth and that are based and operating in Canada. Over time, it has raised and distributed close to $400,000 CAD, supporting countless children, youth and their families.

The Aki Latvala Foundation does not present itself as a program‑driven grantmaker with open calls; instead, it works as a discretionary funder that selects and supports charitable organizations aligned with its mission. Examples of recipients include youth clubs, food security programs, shelters and mental health organizations such as the Dovercourt Boys and Girls Club, Eva’s Place, Food4Kids, Ronald McDonald House Toronto, the Halton Poverty Roundtable, Breakfast Club of Canada and others.

The foundation seeks out charities with strong organizational fundamentals, good transparency and a high proportion of donations directed to front‑line work rather than administration. Its contributions may support initiatives like after‑school tutoring and mentoring, food programs for kids, housing and support services for homeless youth, health care support for families, and other projects that improve outcomes for children and youth.

The primary beneficiaries of the foundation’s funding are children and youth in need across Canadian communities, along with their families. By aggregating donations from nearly 500 individual donors and event participants, the foundation amplifies community giving and directs it to trusted charities with proven impact. The Aki Latvala Foundation is governed by an all‑volunteer board of directors located in several Canadian cities. Its donor base includes many members of the Greater Toronto Area curling community and friends and colleagues of Aki Latvala.
