Role of Stratford Hall in the funding ecosystem
Stratford Hall is an independent, non-profit K–12 International Baccalaureate (IB) World School located on Commercial Drive in Vancouver, British Columbia. Organized under the Stratford Hall (School) Society and supported by a related entity, the Stratford Hall Foundation, the school combines rigorous IB programming with a commitment to access and inclusion. Beyond its core educational mission, Stratford Hall administers a financial assistance program that provides tuition support to families who demonstrate financial need and might not otherwise be able to afford an independent school education.
Financial assistance and support offered
The school’s financial assistance program is designed to reduce tuition costs for eligible students from Kindergarten through Grade 12. Families apply through Apple Financial Services, which conducts an arm’s‑length assessment of their capacity to fund an independent school education. Based on this analysis and Stratford Hall’s internal review, qualifying families may receive need‑based aid applied directly to tuition fees.
The process includes an online application, payment of a modest processing fee, and submission of supporting financial documentation such as tax returns, T4s, pay statements and mortgage information. Aid decisions are made by the school’s finance team once students have been formally admitted and enrolled. Applications typically open in October each year, with a stated deadline of November 30, and are reviewed confidentially in the order received.
Governance and the Stratford Hall Foundation
Strategic oversight of the school rests with the Stratford Hall Board of Governors, elected or appointed by the Stratford Hall (School) Society. The Board sets institutional priorities, approves annual budgets and appoints the Head of School. A second organization, the Stratford Hall Foundation, is incorporated under the Societies Act of British Columbia. The Foundation holds major capital assets and conducts capital fundraising campaigns in support of Stratford Hall’s long‑term facilities and financial sustainability, indirectly underpinning programs such as financial assistance.
Mission, vision and impact
Stratford Hall’s mission is to empower a diverse community of learners to steward a changing world, and its vision focuses on inspiring minds through innovation and ingenuity. These commitments shape both its educational offerings and the way it deploys financial aid, prioritizing access for qualified students and encouraging a diverse, inclusive school community.
