Grant and Funding Programs Offered by Spartan Foundation

Spartan Foundation is a Canadian registered charitable non-profit dedicated to financially supporting Trinity Western University (TWU) Spartan Athletics. Created by business leaders, alumni and parents, it exists to build a sustainable funding model so TWU can operate a best‑in‑class university athletics program without relying on public funding. The foundation channels donations into targeted funds and programs that directly benefit more than 350 student‑athletes across multiple varsity teams.

The foundation manages several key funding streams. A central pillar is the Complete Champion Financial‑Need Fund, which provides in‑need scholarships to student‑athletes who face tuition, housing, food and other cost pressures. Another major priority is the Complete Champion Mental Health & Student Aid Fund, which finances access to counselling through the TWU Wellness Centre, team‑based mental health sessions, mentoring by coaches and referrals to community clinical counsellors and performance coaches.

Beyond direct student aid, Spartan Foundation raises money for missions and outreach trips, leadership and spiritual development activities, and coaching support under the wider “Complete Champion Approach™”, a holistic model that integrates academic, athletic, personal, leadership and spiritual growth. The Champion‑A‑Team program allows donors to direct 100% of their gift to a specific Spartan team, while corporate partnerships and board champion initiatives engage businesses and major supporters in multi‑year commitments.

Through the Spartans4Life Endowment campaign, the foundation promotes legacy and planned giving to build a capital base whose investment income will fund scholarships in perpetuity. Donors are encouraged to remember Spartan Foundation in their wills or through gifts of securities, helping ensure that future generations of TWU student‑athletes can access scholarships, mental health support and leadership opportunities.

According to the foundation’s impact reporting, millions of dollars have been directed to TWU Spartan Athletics, funding hundreds of financial‑need scholarships and enabling the program to offer the full complement of league‑permitted athletic awards. These investments have contributed to conference and national championships, a high number of Academic All‑Canadians and professional athletes, as well as alumni who carry the “Complete Champion” ethos into leadership, service and faith‑based initiatives worldwide.
