ReBOOT Canada: Bridging the Digital Divide

About ReBOOT Canada

ReBOOT Canada is a non-profit organization dedicated to providing computer equipment, training, and technical support to charities, non-profits, and individuals with limited access to technology. With locations in Vancouver, Toronto, and Peterborough, they have been operating for nearly three decades, facilitating technology access and digital inclusion across the country.

Programs Offered by ReBOOT Canada

ReBOOT Canada runs several key programs to support digital equity:
  • reSTART: Supplies low-cost computers to people receiving social assistance, helping around 1,000 families each year with refurbished desktops or laptops, complete with accessories and warranty.
  • reSOURCE: Provides complete IT solutions for Canadian charities and not-for-profit groups, enabling them to efficiently serve their communities.
  • reLAY: Works with Indigenous, northern, and marginalized communities in partnership with the Cisco Foundation to set up free community Wi-Fi, including training and support for sustainable usage.
  • reTOOL: Offers ongoing paid placements, co-op, and volunteer opportunities to help young people build digital skills, both in-person and remotely.

Commitment to Circular Economy and Environmental Stewardship

ReBOOT Canada champions responsible electronics recycling and circular economies. Every year, they receive over 14,000 devices from individuals, businesses, and organizations. Usable devices are refurbished and redeployed, while non-viable electronics are responsibly recycled. This ensures valuable materials are reintroduced into the supply chain and significantly funds their charitable initiatives.

Addressing Digital Equity in Canada

The organization recognizes three main challenges to digital equity:
  • Market barriers that impede access to technology for low-income individuals and communities.
  • Economic limitations of telecom infrastructure in remote and under-resourced regions.
  • Systemic attitudes and biases that restrict marginalized groups and youth from opportunities in the digital economy.
Through its programs and with donor support, ReBOOT Canada actively works to reduce these barriers and promote inclusive digital participation.

Ways to Support ReBOOT Canada

Support for ReBOOT Canada can take many forms:
  • Donate used computers, monitors, keyboards, and mice at their Vancouver, Toronto, or Peterborough locations, or request pickup for larger donations.
  • Monetary donations are welcome via their Canada Helps profile, directly aiding digital equity initiatives.
  • In-kind technology donations are assessed for fair market value, with tax receipts provided.

Join the Movement for Digital Inclusion

By partnering with donors, community members, and organizations, ReBOOT Canada has helped thousands gain access to technology, wireless connectivity, and digital learning opportunities. Supporting ReBOOT Canada is a meaningful step toward creating a fairer, more connected digital future for everyone in Canada.
