Role of QBMA in the Funding Ecosystem
As a community-based non-profit organization, QBMA plays a vital role in supporting Black students pursuing careers in medicine and health sciences in Quebec. The organization provides Excellence Scholarships to outstanding students who demonstrate academic excellence and community involvement. Funding is directed toward students enrolled in CEGEP and university programs in medically related fields, with preference given to those from economically or culturally disadvantaged backgrounds.
General Evaluation Criteria for Applications
Scholarship applicants must be full-time students in a medically related field at a Quebec CEGEP or university, hold Canadian citizenship or permanent residency, demonstrate involvement in the Black community, and possess an excellent academic record. Required documents include a CV, transcripts, proof of acceptance, an essay, two reference letters, a passport photo, and proof of citizenship.
Transparency, Governance, and Accountability
QBMA is governed by a Board of Directors composed of healthcare professionals, and operates a Scholarship Selection Committee that functions autonomously. The organization issues tax receipts for donations and maintains clear eligibility criteria and application processes published on its website.
