Grant and Funding Programs Offered by Pontiac Community Hospital Foundation

The Pontiac Community Hospital Foundation (FHC Pontiac) is a registered Canadian public foundation based in Shawville, Québec, active since 1992 and officially registered on April 1, 1993. It acts as a bridge between the Pontiac community and the local medical community, mobilizing individual and corporate donors as well as community organizations to finance projects that maintain and expand local health services.

Over the years, the Foundation has helped fund major improvements at the Pontiac Community Hospital and related facilities, including projects for cataract surgery, dialysis treatment and endoscopy exams such as otoscopy and colonoscopy. By financing specialized equipment and services, the Foundation enables residents to access high-demand treatments locally instead of travelling to larger urban centres.

FHC Pontiac primarily raises money through online donations, Interac transfers, mail-in contributions and numerous community fundraising events. These funds are then invested in hospital projects and, in some cases, direct financial support to individuals through bursary programs.

A flagship initiative is the MacLachlan Family Bursary Program for nursing students. This program supports residents of the Pontiac MRC or the Municipality of Pontiac who enroll in an accredited nursing program in Québec or Ontario. It offers up to four bursaries per academic year, with a maximum of $5,000 per year per recipient and a cumulative ceiling of $20,000, with different levels of support for full-time and part-time studies.
