Role in the Funding Ecosystem
Pictou Mutual Community Foundation is a registered private charitable foundation incorporated under the Canadian Corporations Act and regulated under the Income Tax Act. Founded in 2009 by the former Pictou Mutual Insurance Company, the foundation supports communities in Pictou County and surrounding areas of Nova Scotia. General Evaluation Criteria
The foundation accepts applications twice yearly (April and October) from non-profit organizations registered with Canada Revenue Agency. Grants are awarded for definite purposes and projects covering specified time periods. The foundation does not fund deficits, endowments, sectarian or political purposes, individuals, sports events, or projects outside their supported communities.

History
Founded in 2009, Pictou Mutual Community Foundation celebrated its 15th anniversary in 2024. Initial funding was provided by Pictou Mutual Insurance Company, with continued support from Kings Mutual Insurance Company. The foundation's goal is to grow to become one of the largest community foundations in Atlantic Canada.
Supported Audiences
The foundation supports registered charities and non-profit organizations working in social services, education, health, cultural, and environmental sectors. Past recipients include community halls, arts councils, animal welfare organizations, residential services, theatres, and community gardens.
