What else should I know about Parks Canada?

Parks Canada administers national historic designations and provides funding for heritage conservation through programs such as the National Cost-Sharing Program for Heritage Places. This program makes assistance available to owners and long-term lessees of federally recognized heritage places, including national historic sites, heritage buildings, heritage railway stations and heritage lighthouses, for conservation and presentation work. In the funding ecosystem, Parks Canada fills a specialized public role: heritage properties can be costly to preserve, yet their benefits are shared by communities, researchers, tourism operators and the public. Cost-sharing grants help eligible stewards repair, stabilize, conserve and interpret places that carry national historic value but are not necessarily owned by the federal government. The funding reduces the burden on local organizations and property owners while helping Canada maintain cultural memory, tourism assets and educational access to historic places.
