Role of the Meaningful Work Foundation in the Funding Ecosystem
The Meaningful Work Foundation serves as the philanthropic arm of Raise Recruiting, a Canadian recruitment company. Established in 2017, the foundation channels 10% of Raise's annual profits to support charitable organizations that address employment barriers. This corporate foundation model allows for consistent annual giving focused on workforce development and inclusion.
Eligibility and Application Process
The foundation accepts applications from Canadian registered charities with a unique 15-digit Business Number (BN) from the Canada Revenue Agency. Organizations must be actively involved in breaking down barriers to employment. The annual application cycle opens on April 1st and closes around April 30th, with internal review conducted in June and decisions communicated by month-end.
2025 Grant Recipients and Supported Programs
This year's grants supported three organizations: Autism Society of the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo for their Youth Employment Skills Program helping neurodiverse youth; ComIT for their Employment Empowerment Initiative connecting bootcamp graduates with job placement support; and the Northern Journalism Training Initiative (NJTI) for their "Voices from the Land" program offering paid reporting placements for Indigenous youth.
Impact and Growth
Since 2019, the Meaningful Work Foundation has provided over $815,000 to 44 charities around the world. The foundation's reach includes organizations across Canada working with diverse populations including neurodiverse individuals, Indigenous communities, newcomers, and other groups facing systemic barriers to employment.
