Role of IBEP in the Funding Ecosystem
Indigenous Business Education Partners (IBEP) serves as a dedicated funding and support portal for Indigenous students enrolled in business programs at the University of Manitoba. The program acts as both a direct scholarship provider and an administrator of external awards from corporate and community partners.
Scholarship Programs Offered
IBEP offers the Scholarship in Indigenous Business Education valued at $15,000 per year, renewable for up to four years of undergraduate study. This major award supports Indigenous students who demonstrate academic promise and leadership potential. Additionally, IBEP facilitates awards on behalf of external scholarship providers including CIBC, CPA Manitoba, Tribal Councils Investment Group, and Vision Quest.
Bursaries and Financial Support
The program provides multiple bursary opportunities for students demonstrating financial need. These include entrance awards, international study awards for students participating in Asper's Exchange Program, and joint program admission awards.
VIBE Awards and Community Recognition
IBEP hosts the annual Visionary Indigenous Business Excellence (VIBE) Awards, celebrating outstanding Indigenous entrepreneurs in Manitoba. Proceeds from sponsorships and ticket sales directly benefit IBEP students through scholarships and bursaries.
Eligibility and Application Process
IBEP membership is open to all First Nations, Métis and Inuit students admitted to or intending to pursue a BComm(Hons) or graduate business degree at the Asper School. Application requirements include academic achievement (minimum 3.0 GPA for continuing students), full-time enrollment, and demonstrated leadership potential.
