Grant and Funding Programs Offered by Horatio Alger Association of Canada

The Horatio Alger Association of Canada is a major nonprofit scholarship provider in the Canadian educational landscape. As the Canadian affiliate of the Horatio Alger Association of Distinguished Americans, it focuses on supporting students who have demonstrated resilience in overcoming adversity and financial hardship. The Association operates national scholarship programs that award substantial funding to hundreds of students annually, making it one of the most significant private scholarship providers in Canada.

The Association administers multiple scholarship streams: National Entrepreneurial Scholarships valued at $25,000 each (starting with the Class of 2026), Canadian Scholarships at $10,000, Quebec Scholarships at $10,000, and a Vocational and Technical Scholarship program providing up to $9,000 for 70 recipients annually. Graduate scholarships and Indigenous-specific awards are also available. In 2025 alone, $2.5 million was awarded to 300 new Scholars.

Beyond financial assistance, the Association provides holistic support including financial aid counselling, university selection advising, a university success program, mental health resources, emergency financial support, housing assistance during breaks, and career services including externships and internship stipends. Scholars gain access to mentoring from Association Members and industry professionals through the HAA Connect platform.

Since 2012, the Association has awarded over $19 million in scholarships to more than 2,550 students from coast to coast to coast. The 2025 Scholar class achieved an impressive 90% overall grade average. Over 1,000 students are currently supported, with 430 active alumni nationwide.
