The Origin of the Foundation
The Fondation de l’Ordre des Dentistes du Québec (FODQ) was created out of the strong desire of the Ordre des dentistes du Québec to demonstrate the social engagement of the dental profession. Recognizing the pressing need to support vulnerable populations, the Order established the foundation to facilitate activities providing dental care outside traditional office settings. Notably, the Quebec Dentists' Order is one of the few professional orders in the province to have such a foundation.
Mission and Objectives
The primary mission of the FODQ is to raise and manage funds aimed at improving access to oral healthcare for the most vulnerable people in Quebec. Through initiating, supporting, and implementing preventive, curative, and research projects, the Foundation seeks to address disparities. Additionally, it works to raise awareness about the lack of access to dental care and to recognize individuals and organizations contributing to its improvement.
Vision and Values
FODQ envisions a healthier Quebec where everyone, especially those in vulnerable situations, can access quality oral care. Its core values are social engagement, caring, collaboration, respect and dignity, donor consideration, inclusion and diversity, and equity.
Legal Status and Growth
On April 1, 1996, the FODQ officially obtained charitable organization status. Since then, it has continuously developed its objectives to better fulfill its mission. These objectives include reducing social inequalities through targeted projects, educating professionals and the public, financing research into dental care access, awarding scholarships for community involvement, supporting and collaborating with vulnerable individuals and partner organizations, and maintaining a robust financial structure to encourage ongoing donations.

Through pro bono initiatives and research scholarships, the Fondation de l’Ordre des dentistes du Québec significantly contributes to improving social dentistry practices. Their continued efforts ensure that dental care is accessible to the most disadvantaged individuals, making a tangible difference in the lives of Quebec’s vulnerable populations.
