What else should I know about Federation of Private Educational Institutions (FEEP)?
The Federation of Private Educational Institutions, in its current form, was established in the early 2000s following the consolidation of several associations representing private education in Quebec. Its origins, however, date back to the 1950s, when the first collective structures were created to represent and defend the interests of private schools during a period of significant transformation within Quebec’s education system. Over time, these organizations evolved to better reflect pedagogical, social, and legislative realities, ultimately leading to the formation of a unified federation representing private schools across the province.
Today, the Federation represents the vast majority of Quebec’s private educational institutions at the preschool, elementary, and secondary levels, including specialized schools and institutions offering residential education. It supports its members through a comprehensive range of services such as advisory support, professional development, pedagogical and organizational guidance, and the sharing of best practices. Through its leadership and advocacy role, it serves as a recognized voice with public authorities and educational stakeholders, actively contributing to discussions and policy directions shaping the future of education in Quebec.
As part of its mandate, the Federation also serves as an administrator of financial support measures intended to benefit its member institutions and the families they serve. These initiatives are designed to improve access to private education for students from diverse socioeconomic backgrounds, support innovative educational projects, and strengthen student support and success services. The orientations of these measures emphasize equity, educational development, and continuous improvement in teaching quality, while remaining attentive to the real needs of learners and communities. Through this role, the Federation helps make private education in Quebec more inclusive, dynamic, and complementary to the public system.
