Role of EHFC in the Funding Ecosystem

The Environmental Health Foundation of Canada (EHFC) is a non-profit organization dedicated to advancing environmental health through financial support for education, research, and professional development. Operating since at least 1990, EHFC provides various funding streams to support students, professionals, and research initiatives in the environmental health field.

Bursary and Grant Programs

EHFC administers multiple funding programs:

• Environmental Public Health Bursary for Indigenous Students - In collaboration with Indigenous Services Canada, supports Indigenous students pursuing environmental health education
• CPHI(C) Continuing Education Bursary - Supports certified public health inspectors with continuing education
• Student Bursary Support - Enables students to attend the CIPHI National Education Conference
• Nelson M. Fok Research Grant - Funds research projects in environmental health (applications open January 1 - May 1 annually)

Awards and Recognition

EHFC recognizes excellence through awards including the Clifford E. Van Alstyne Communication Award, EHFC-Lilli Ann Zahara Public Health Education Award, HEDGEROW Software Leadership in Environmental Health Award, and NSF Food Safety Award.

Community Impact

EHFC demonstrates community engagement through fundraising that supports projects such as Rotary Stratford's Aquabox Project and the COMMIT 2025 Eco Stove Project, with $2,500 donations in 2024.
