EnviroCentre is an Ottawa-based non-profit social enterprise that has spent more than 25 years designing and delivering practical climate solutions tailored to the needs of people and places. Through the EnviroCentre Affordability portal (envirocentreaffordability.ca), the organization serves as a critical link for Eastern Ontario residents to access comprehensive, no-cost energy efficiency programs. Our mission is to eliminate energy poverty by ensuring that safe, comfortable, and affordable housing is accessible to all, regardless of income.

The affordability initiative offers a "one-window" application process that matches eligible households with the right support systems, primarily the Save on Energy: Energy Affordability Program and the Enbridge Gas Home Winterproofing Program. Once eligibility is confirmed, a registered energy advisor performs a professional in-home assessment to identify the most impactful upgrades. These may range from basic draft-proofing and LED lighting to significant structural improvements like high-performance insulation, ENERGY STAR® appliance replacements, and the installation of cold-climate heat pumps for homes currently using oil or electricity for heat.

Open to homeowners and renters alike, the program is unique in that it requires no loans, rebates, or upfront payments; all work is completed by authorized contractors at zero cost to the participant. By focusing on tangible results—such as saving households an average of $1,300 annually on heating—EnviroCentre not only reduces regional greenhouse gas emissions but also provides immediate economic relief to families.
