Role of the Cité de la Santé Foundation in the funding ecosystem

The Cité de la Santé Foundation is the official hospital foundation serving the CISSS de Laval, including Hôpital de la Cité-de-la-Santé, the Jewish Rehabilitation Hospital, youth protection centres, CLSCs, long-term care facilities and other installations across the Laval territory. Created in 1980, it mobilizes the community to improve health and social services by channeling philanthropic resources into strategic projects.

The Foundation’s mission is to contribute to the improvement of care and services offered at the CISSS de Laval. To achieve this, it operates several fundraising campaigns and events, then redistributes the funds to projects proposed mainly by employees and clinical teams of the CISSS. Over more than 40 years, it reports having attributed over 35 million dollars to projects aligned with its mission.

Main funding axes and types of support

• Medical equipment: regular acquisition of specialized devices and modern equipment to enhance diagnostics, treatment and day surgeries, helping reduce waiting lists and improve the quality of care.
• Quality of life initiatives: funding of projects that humanize care and improve patients’ daily lives, such as cultural or recreational programs in CHSLDs and other facilities.
• Research and teaching: annual investments in clinical research projects at the CISSS de Laval, as well as support for initiatives like the clinical ethics research chair, in partnership with other hospital foundations.
• Training and skills development: each year, the Foundation awards around $50,000 in continuing education and study scholarships for nursing and multidisciplinary care professionals.
• Infrastructure projects: contributions to the redevelopment of units, creation of new spaces and improvement of hospital and care environments, including major projects for critical care, psychiatry, mother-and-child services and green parking areas.

The Foundation maintains a formal mechanism for submitting funding requests, accessible via a funding request form and procedure in its documentation section. Projects can target the various intervention axes and are often initiated by CISSS de Laval staff to respond to identified needs in equipment, infrastructure or patient experience.

In addition to ongoing support, a major campaign branded #ProfondémentHumain (2020–2025) structures several flagship projects with defined financial objectives, such as a new Family Centre, redevelopment of three hospital units, youth support initiatives (Projet CLÉ and Projet SEVE), and innovation projects linked to research and greener hospital environments.
