Role in the Funding Ecosystem
Cadet Foundation is a Quebec-based charitable foundation dedicated to eliminating health inequalities faced by marginalized populations in Canada and internationally. The foundation serves as a direct funder of health initiatives, educational scholarships, and community development projects.
Funding Programs
- Perpetual Bursary: $100,000 annual bursary for Black medical students at McGill University, established in 2020
- Health Fairs: Community health screening events in the Greater Montreal area targeting marginalized populations
- Medical Missions: Funding for medical and surgical missions to provide specialized care to underserved communities
- Haiti Projects: $135,000 commitment over 6 years to build a community health center in Milot, Haiti
Target Audiences
The foundation focuses on Black and racialized communities, with specific programs for youth education in medicine, maternal and child health, and eye health. Recipients include students from McGill University and communities in Haiti and Montreal's underserved neighborhoods.
Transparency and Governance
The foundation maintains transparency through newsletters, blog posts, and donor recognition. Scholarship selection is conducted by an independent committee led by McGill University.
