Grant and Funding Programs Offered by Biggar & District Health Services Foundation Inc. (BDHSF)

Biggar & District Health Services Foundation Inc. is a community-based charitable foundation created in 2012 to enhance health care in Biggar and the surrounding district. Operating independently from regional health authorities, it acts as a dedicated fundraising and funding body for local health services. The Foundation focuses on purchasing priority medical equipment, supporting medical services and contributing to staff education for programs delivered in Biggar and district by the Saskatchewan Health Authority (formerly Heartland Health Region).

Through donations, planned giving and community campaigns, the Foundation helps sustain high-quality acute care, long-term care, emergency medical services, home care and community health services. Donors may make unrestricted contributions, which are directed to the areas of greatest need, or designate gifts to specific service areas such as acute care, long-term care, EMS, home care or community services.

The Foundation channels the funds it raises into capital purchases and program enhancements that benefit patients and residents at the Biggar & District Health Centre and related services in the district. This includes urgently needed medical equipment, upgrades to existing equipment, and educational opportunities that improve the skills and retention of medical staff.

A variety of giving options are promoted, including general donations, memorial and tribute gifts, monthly giving, and planned gifts via wills or life insurance policies. Gifts can also be directed to endowment funds, helping create longer-term, sustainable support for local health care priorities.

The Foundation relies heavily on community engagement to generate resources. Fundraising campaigns and events, such as dine-and-dance evenings with silent auctions, raise both money and awareness of local health care needs. A donor recognition program highlights cumulative contributions at levels ranging from Partner to Diamond, using a donor board and acknowledgements to celebrate community support.

Volunteers and board members play a central role in organizing events, conducting campaigns and managing the Foundation’s activities. Community members can contribute by serving on the board, assisting with mailings, or helping deliver fundraising events. All of these efforts ensure that donations stay in Biggar and district and are transformed into concrete health care improvements for residents.
