Role of Bahá’í Center Assistance Corp. in the funding ecosystem
Bahá’í Center Assistance Corp. (BCA) is an agency of the National Spiritual Assembly of the Bahá’ís of the United States, incorporated in 2004 as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit. Its mandate is to help local Bahá’í communities develop, lease, acquire, renovate and maintain Bahá’í center properties so these facilities can effectively serve the Faith’s teaching and community‑building objectives.
BCA works with Local Spiritual Assemblies and registered groups that are planning their first center, leasing temporary facilities, or managing existing properties. It offers a combination of education, technical guidance and financial support so that communities can make sound decisions about readiness, property selection, financing and long‑term operations.
Financial assistance and loan options
BCA provides access to board‑approved loan options designed for specific categories of improvements to local centers. Current offerings include loans for energy‑related improvements, where projected savings should repay the investment in under 36 months, and loans for safety‑related renovations, including code compliance and accessibility upgrades. Each loan type has defined limits as a share of total project cost and an overall dollar cap, and detailed terms are set out in a dedicated “Approved Loan Terms and Requirements” document.
Beyond direct lending, BCA materials discuss financing strategies, fundraising considerations and prudent financial management of funds earmarked for future centers, helping communities align their capital projects with broader Bahá’í plans and guidance from the Office of the Treasurer.
Technical assistance, training and resources
BCA offers a systematic program of education, training and technical assistance. Its Local Bahá’í Centers Technical Assistance Manual covers community readiness, organizational processes, feasibility studies, site and property selection, legal and zoning issues, construction and renovation, insurance, ongoing operations and environmental factors. Communities can download the manual and related tools without charge.
Additional resources include an Emergency Operations Planning Manual for Local Spiritual Assemblies, webinars on emergency planning, case‑study style “Lessons Learned”, guidance on rental and insurance issues, and presentations explaining key points to consider before leasing or purchasing a center. BCA also consults directly with Assemblies and registered groups upon written request, offering tailored advice for local circumstances.
Supported audiences and overall impact
BCA primarily serves Local Spiritual Assemblies and registered Bahá’í groups throughout the United States. By combining training, consultation and loan programs, it strengthens the capacity of communities to establish and maintain centers that are financially sustainable, compliant with regulations and well suited to teaching, devotional life and community activities. Its board is appointed by the National Spiritual Assembly, and it works in close coordination with the Bahá’í National Center to align its assistance with national plans and priorities.
