ARBRE-ÉVOLUTION: Acting for the Planet through Reforestation

Arbre-Évolution is a cooperative committed to implementing reforestation and eco-education projects across Quebec. With the support of hundreds of organizations, they aim to amplify the fight against climate change while enhancing educational environments and community living spaces. Their impact is tangible, from schoolyards to riverbanks, and their expertise positions them as a leading reference in agroforestry and carbon technologies in Quebec.

A Diverse Range of Projects

Since its foundation, Arbre-Évolution has dramatically increased the number of green spaces in Quebec:

• 255 reforestation projects
• 33 edible landscaping developments
• 32 urban microforests
• 50 redesigned schoolyards
• 14 km of expanded riparian buffers
• 8 educational greenhouses
• 34 outdoor classrooms
• 1 agro-ecological orchard
• 699 eco-education workshops delivered

The diversity of these actions allows Arbre-Évolution to meet many socio-environmental needs, while mobilizing schools, municipalities, agricultural producers and businesses to join the movement.

Eco-Education and School Engagement

The Le Semoir initiative is at the heart of Arbre-Évolution's educational mission. Schools statewide can:

• Offer eco-educational workshops for students
• Install pedagogical greenhouses
• Create outdoor classrooms
• Participate in tree planting activities
• Green their schoolyards

This involvement allows students to discover the issues linked to climate, biodiversity and food autonomy while participating in concrete and meaningful projects.

Businesses and Municipalities: True Green Partners

Municipalities and businesses play a crucial role in the success of Arbre-Évolution's projects. Through the development of social reforestation, the implementation of food forests, or participation in carbon markets, their commitment is vital in achieving meaningful environmental results.

• Over 12,649 volunteers mobilized and 5,644 students engaged
• 183,627 trees and nearly 40,000 shrubs and herbaceous plants planted
• 169 hectares reforested and 148 urban heat islands combated

Such figures demonstrate the large-scale positive effect that collective action can have on the environment and public health.

Sequestering Carbon and Innovating for the Future

To date, Arbre-Évolution estimates potential carbon sequestration reaching over 44,000 tonnes, with more than 36,000 tonnes allocated to partners. The cooperative also innovates with:

• Social Reforestation™ projects
• Riparian Carbon™ program
• Protocols for carbon offset projects

These actions help individuals, businesses, and communities to offset their carbon footprint in a concrete way, whether by directly financing tree planting or by participating in green team-building activities.
