Aquarium Foundation: Supporting Youth Mental Health in Canada
Our Mission
Aquarium Foundation is the only analytic foundation in Canada specifically focused on meeting the needs of children and adolescents. Our primary goal is to improve access to psychoanalytic treatments, helping young people receive the mental health care they need.
Mental Health Challenges for Youth
Over 3.2 million adolescents in Canada are at risk of suffering from depression, yet only 20% of them receive any form of service. This alarming statistic underlines the urgent need for greater mental health support and resources for young people.
Proven Effectiveness of Psychodynamic Psychotherapy
Psychodynamic psychotherapy is backed by a growing body of evidence demonstrating not only its effectiveness in treatment, but also the long-term sustainability of its outcomes. Aquarium Foundation supports the use of these therapies to ensure lasting benefits for youth.
Support Programs and Services
Aquarium Foundation provides a variety of programs to support individuals, organizations, and professionals within the community, including:
- Psychotherapy Grants: Renewable grants to initiate, extend, or intensify psychoanalytic psychotherapy.
- Peer Study Groups: Bilingual groups for psychotherapists working with children, adolescents, and young adults.
- Specialized Consultation: Consultations available for community organizations, schools, and vulnerable populations on request.
Community Engagement and Advocacy
Aquarium Foundation is committed to promoting the mental health and wellbeing of young people and their families, both locally and globally, as well as online. The foundation advocates for better access to specialized care and greater awareness among parents, educators, and policymakers.
