Role of the Ames Family Foundation in the Funding Ecosystem
The Ames Family Foundation operates as a private charitable foundation providing direct financial support to vulnerable youth in British Columbia. Through its partnership with the BC Foster Parents Association (BCFPA), the foundation administers a dedicated bursary program for youth transitioning from government care to post-secondary education.
General Evaluation Criteria for Applications
Bursaries are awarded based on financial need, individual circumstances, and academic and career goals. The foundation explicitly encourages applications from equity-deserving populations, particularly Indigenous peoples, racialized individuals, 2SLGBTQ+ identified persons, persons with disabilities, and those experiencing intersecting forms of discrimination.
Eligibility Requirements
- Former youth in care under a Continuing Custody Order (CCO) or Temporary Custody Order (TCO), Voluntary Care Agreement, Special Care Agreement, or Youth Agreement in BC under the Child, Family and Community Services Act

- Current BC resident
- Currently enrolled or planning to enroll in a secondary, post-secondary academic, technical, or vocational program at a recognized public or registered private post-secondary institution
