Role in the Funding Ecosystem
As one of approximately 250 community foundations across Canada, the Airdrie and District Community Foundation serves as a vital intermediary between donors and local charities. The foundation accepts tax-receipted gifts, pools them into a permanent endowment, and distributes the investment income to charities addressing community needs.
Grant Programs and Focus Areas
The foundation supports registered charities in Airdrie and area funding many aspects of community development. Each year, grants are awarded based on compelling needs or ideas submitted by local charities. The foundation has distributed nearly half a million dollars in Government of Canada funding through its programs.
Impact and Growth
Since its establishment on September 1, 2012, the foundation has grown significantly. The permanent fund started with $11,000 and now totals more than $1.3 million. Grant distributions have increased from $5,500 in 2017 to $50,000 in 2024, reflecting the generosity of donors and expanding community impact.
Transparency and Accountability
The foundation operates under federal regulations and publishes annual reports. Past recipients include Community Links, Airdrie Community Choir Association, Bethany Care Society, and the Airdrie Rotary Festival of Performing Arts.
