Eligibility

Who is eligible?

  • Students who meet the program’s eligibility criteria.

Who is not eligible

  • Non-Canadians who hold a temporary work visa.
  • Applicants awaiting permanent resident status.
  • Students who have another full-time job during the employment period.

Eligible expenses

  • Round-trip transportation between the student’s permanent residence and workplace when the workplace is 125 km or more from the permanent residence.
  • Accommodation allowance for participants who must pay rent.

Selection criteria

  • Overall project objectives, including benefits for the student, institution, community, region and country.
  • Project planning, including a clear description of the project, measurable results, job description, tasks and timelines.
  • Skills development and employability, with practical and enriching work experience.
  • Employment parameters, recruitment, orientation and supervision, including a clearly defined candidate profile, appropriate salary and credible budget.
  • Official languages contribution and specific criteria set by the delivery organization according to regional needs and priorities; priority is given to Indigenous organizations, Indigenous youth, Indigenous cultural heritage, ethnocultural and official-language minority communities, and young people facing barriers to employment.

  • Step 3: Express interest
    • Select a job title and click “Express interest in this job”.
  • Step 4: Complete required forms if selected
    • Candidate Eligibility Form.
    • Staffing Report.
    • End of Work Term Report.

Processing and Agreement

  • Delivery organizations evaluate the application, approve projects for funding, and administer the funding.
  • Applications are acknowledged within five working days after the deadline.
  • Approved applicants receive an email confirmation and a preliminary offer within eight weeks after the deadline, while refused applicants receive an email notice within eight weeks after the deadline.
  • Payments are issued by the delivery organization after the required documents have been received and accepted under the contract.
  • Employers must complete the online eligibility, staffing, end-of-employment and evaluation forms during the employment period, and keep the required records for five years for audit and evaluation.

  • Positions under this program last from 6 to 16 weeks.
  • Transportation and accommodation assistance is available for students who must travel over 125 km to their work placement.
  • The employer is responsible for hiring; students are encouraged to apply directly to positions of interest.
  • Students are required to complete several online forms and reports throughout their employment period.
