Overview

Xecs Call 5 supports collaborative international R&D projects in micro/nano-electronics and photonics applications (agrifood, natural resources, digital society, energy, health and well-being, and mobility), with funding provided by each participant’s national funding body. The maximum funding amount is not specified; eligible activities include developing and submitting a Project Outline and Full Project Proposal via the Xecs Project Zone and carrying out the selected collaborative R&D project (Canadian SMEs must be eligible as NRC IRAP clients).

Eligibility

  • Be an incorporated, profit-oriented Canadian SME (500 or fewer full-time equivalent employees).
  • Have been in operation for at least 12 months before the project proposal deadline.
  • Have at least 5 full-time equivalent employees in Canada on payroll (issued a T4), excluding contract employees.
  • Propose an innovative, technology-driven R&D project with commercialization potential and protectable, differentiated technology for global markets.
  • Be eligible to become an NRC IRAP client to be considered for Canadian funding under this call.

  • Canadian incorporated, profit-oriented small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs)
  • Micro/nano-electronics and photonics organizations (electronic components and systems)
  • Organizations developing applications in agrifood
  • Organizations developing applications in energy
  • Organizations developing applications in health and well-being

Who is not eligible

  • Canadian companies that are not incorporated, profit-oriented SMEs (for example, large corporations).
  • Canadian businesses that have been operating for less than 12 months as of the project proposal deadline.
  • Canadian companies with fewer than 5 full-time equivalent employees in Canada on payroll (T4), excluding contractors.
  • Canadian organizations that are not eligible to be NRC IRAP clients (these cannot be considered for funding through this call).
  • Other Canadian organization types (for example, research institutes) unless they secure alternative funding or self-fund their participation.

Ineligible Costs and Activities

  • Project participation costs for non-eligible participants (for example, large corporations, research institutes, or participants from other countries) unless they self-fund or are subcontractors, as allowed by national rules.
