Eligibility
Who is eligible?
- Indigenous youth aged 15 to 35 years old supported by an eligible organization.
- First Nations and Inuit organizations whose governance is exclusively or predominantly Indigenous, including non-profit organizations, public organizations, cooperatives, or band councils that can legitimately represent the interests of one or more Nations or communities.
Who is not eligible
- Applicants without affiliation to a responsible organization are automatically refused.
Eligible expenses
- Accessories or materials for an activity only, including small cooking equipment, expedition backpacks, canoe, cross-country skis, snowshoes, food for a cooking workshop, and craft materials.
- Renting a shelter for an outing in the territory.
- Travel costs for a group of young people and their leaders, including car, public transport, plane, or train.
- Construction of a temporary building, such as a greenhouse or tepee.
- Salary of a project coordinator up to 75% of the total project budget, training for young people, and management costs up to a maximum of 10% of the overall project budget, including telecommunications, stationery and office expenses, insurance, bank charges, membership fees and subscriptions, computer supplies, and equipment.
Ineligible Costs and Activities
- Regular operating expenses of an organization.
- Expenses incurred before the agreement is signed or after the project completion deadline.
- Costs related to the purchase of liability insurance.
- Infrastructure costs related to the construction of a permanent building, such as a youth centre.
- Purchase of motor vehicles, purchase of weapons requiring a permit, scholarships, and competitions for cash prizes.
Selection criteria
- Support for the leadership development of Indigenous youth.
- Respect for two or more components of sustainable development, with additional points for projects covering three or more elements.
- Number of Indigenous youth reached.
- Achievability of the project timetable.
- Number of partners involved and realism of the budget presented.
How to apply
- Complete the submission form.
- Submit a video recording of the project online.
- Call or email M361 to request support in completing the project submission form.
Processing and Agreement
- Eligibility validation checks the project’s affiliation with a duly registered organization responsible for funding management.
- Eligible projects are analyzed, rated, and ranked according to the published criteria.
- A final selection committee reviews and approves the highest-scoring projects.
- All project sponsors receive written notification of the decision.
- Selected projects receive confirmation along with the grant agreement to be signed, and the forms for the preliminary and final reports are sent by email.
