Overview of the Wood Construction Innovation Program program

The Wood Construction Innovation Program offers financial support of up to $2.5 million for projects integrating innovative use of wood in non-residential and multifamily construction or major renovation. The program aims to increase the usage of wood to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, with eligible activities including project design and innovative wood construction solutions.

Who is eligible?

  • Companies
  • For-profit and nonprofit organizations
  • Social economy enterprises
  • Cooperatives
  • Municipal organizations
  • Indigenous communities

Who is not eligible

  • Ministries and government bodies.
  • Federal public organizations.
  • Companies controlled by a provincial or federal government (excluding municipal entities or companies controlled by them).
  • Companies where the majority ownership is held by a crown corporation.
  • Applicants who are insolvent, bankrupt, have filed a concordat proposal, or are deriving benefits from bankruptcy or insolvency legislation.
  • Applicants listed on the Register of companies ineligible for public contracts (RENA), including subcontractors listed there.
  • Any applicant who has defaulted on obligations after a formal demand related to previous financial aid from a Quebec government ministry or body.
  • Applicants who do not meet the high standards of integrity expected from a recipient of public-funded financial aid.

Eligibility criteria of the Wood Construction Innovation Program program

  • Pertinence and coherence: coherence of the project, realistic project, project responding to a need, demonstration of optimized material use.
  • Credibility and realization: good knowledge of wood products and construction systems, risk management, technical capacity to realize the project, consideration of integrated design, realistic steps and timelines.
  • Innovation: innovative nature for Quebec, level of proposed innovation (impact of innovation at the building scale), technological advancement.
  • Potential impacts: potential for reduction of GES emissions, potential for reproductibility and commercial feasibility in Quebec, development and knowledge transfer, possibility of product exportation.

Filling out the forms
  • Fill out the grant application form available online.
  • Complete the table of eligible expenses for the project.

Collection of supporting documents
  • Attach the required documents such as the audited financial statements, preliminary plans, and the board of directors' resolution.
  • Include vendor submissions and the CVs of the involved partners.

Submission of the request
  • Send the complete request to the address PICB@mrnf.gouv.qc.ca.
  • Make sure that all attachments do not exceed the authorized capacity.

Receipt of the acknowledgment of receipt
Receive an acknowledgment of receipt confirming the complete submission of your file.

Additional information

  • The program is aligned with the Plan for a Green Economy 2030.
  • A web-based information session is available for interested parties.
  • The maximum grant for certain projects may reach up to $2.5 million.
  • The program ends on March 31, 2027.
  • The program aims to reduce GHG emissions by at least 50% for certain projects.
  • Applications must be complete, as incomplete submissions will be returned to the applicant.
  • There is a process for reporting project emissions in line with ISO 14064 standards.
  • The project must demonstrate a potential reduction in GHG emissions and have commercial and replicable potential in Quebec.
