Eligibility

Who is eligible?

  • Farmers and agricultural producers in Manitoba.
  • Owners or leaseholders of eligible crops, honey products, or leafcutter products.
  • Livestock owners or leaseholders in Manitoba.

Who is not eligible

  • Claims for products or livestock not covered by the regulation.
  • Claims for losses on restricted lands.
  • Claims for harvested crops, except stored forage.

Eligible expenses

  • Crop losses for eligible agricultural products.
  • Losses to eligible honey products and leafcutter products.
  • Veterinary treatment and related out-of-pocket costs for injured livestock.

Ineligible Costs and Activities

  • Losses reported after the 72-hour notice period.
  • Losses to harvested crops, except stored forage.
  • Damage linked to late seeding, poor farming practices, or insufficient surveillance.
  • Losses on restricted lands such as provincial parks, national parks, public shooting grounds, or wildlife management areas.

How to apply

  • Step 1: Report the loss
    • Notify the corporation within 72 hours after the loss or damage occurs.
    • Use the form required by the corporation.
  • Step 2: File the claim
    • Submit a notice identifying each affected product or livestock loss.
    • For livestock predation, file the claim with the designated corporation or government office as soon as possible.
  • Step 3: Keep evidence intact
    • Do not harvest, bale, graze, alter, or move the affected product in a way that destroys evidence before assessment.
  • Step 4: Wait for assessment and decision
    • The corporation appraises the loss and issues a written decision.
    • If needed, submit an appeal within 7 days of the notice.

  • Claims are appraised by the corporation after notice is received.
  • The corporation decides the cause of loss and the amount payable.
  • Applicants receive written notice of the decision and any reduction or refusal.
  • Appeals must be filed within 7 days and are handled by the appeal tribunal.

  • Compensation is funded under the Manitoba-Canada wildlife damage compensation agreement.
