Eligibility
Who is eligible?
- Nonprofit organizations, community centres and neighbourhood houses, Indigenous Band Councils or Communities, and Friendship Centres.
- Indigenous Skills and Employment Training Organizations, post-secondary institutions, educational institutions, industry associations, and unions.
- Youth organizations that are legal entities.
Who is not eligible
- School districts and schools in the K-12 system.
- Tradespeople applying on their own to organize a workshop.
- Youth organizations that are not legal entities.
Eligible expenses
- Supplies and materials, including safety materials.
- The Learnery Trades Tinkering Kits.
- Honoraria for volunteer tradespeople, speakers, facilitators, or instructors, including lost wages and travel costs.
- Rental costs for tools.
- Other incidental costs necessary to deliver the workshop, including participant travel or food costs when there is financial need; a meal for a full-day workshop can be included regardless of participants’ financial need.
Ineligible Costs and Activities
- Capital expenses, including large equipment and tools.
- Welding equipment: ARC/MIG.
- Power saws: scroll, band, circular, chop, and table saws.
- Facility upgrades or services attached to the facility or permanent structures.
Selection criteria
- Applications are reviewed against assessment criteria and scored out of 100.
- Strength and completeness of the proposal, including planned activities, communication with local tradespeople, and a comprehensive budget — 20 points.
- Variety of trades presented and depth and quality of the hands-on activity — 10 points and 20 points.
- Tradespeople and community partner involvement and a reasonable budget based on the number of participants in relation to activity costs — 20 points.
- Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion for participants and integration of trades career information — 20 points and 10 points.
How to apply
- Find the application form on the webpage.
- Submit separate applications for each workshop.
- You may have multiple event dates without submitting a separate application if it is the same activity or set of activities but for different groups.
- Email completed applications to grants@skilledtradesbc.ca.
Processing and Agreement
- Applications are considered on an ongoing basis and reviewed and responded to within 10 to 15 business days.
- Funds are disbursed by Electronic Funds Transfer after approval of the application.
- Information regarding EFT setup is provided with approval.
- A brief completion report must be submitted.
- SkilledTradesBC logos must be used on materials created, and media release forms are required for pictures and videos shared with SkilledTradesBC or social media.
