Eligibility
Who is eligible?
- Any SAIT student, including apprentices, staff, or faculty, may apply as individuals or groups.
Eligible expenses
- Costs to develop, implement, and evaluate mental health and wellness promotion initiatives.
- Supplies and promotional materials required for the initiative.
- Small incentives for student participation, such as gift cards for raffle, snacks, and beverages.
- Reasonable honorariums for outside guests, such as guest speakers, Elders, and traditional knowledge holders.
Ineligible Costs and Activities
- Academic program development or delivery, and anything that would fall under mental health care.
- Activities or initiatives that duplicate support already offered at SAIT.
- Capital expenses related to the purchase of land, buildings, or motor vehicles.
- Clinical mental health care, establishing 24-hour telephone-based support, or expenses related to mental health promotion, mental illness prevention, or care models that do not treat people with dignity and respect.
- Wages, salaries and other compensation-related expenses, loan fees, debt principal payments, deficit funding, speculative fundraising ventures, and expenses without a clear relationship to the purpose of the funding or that create an ongoing funding liability for the Government of Alberta.
Selection criteria
- Potential impact or benefit to support the mental health and well-being of SAIT students.
- Preference for initiatives that positively impact a broad range of SAIT students, including full-time, part-time, on-campus or online students and apprentices.
- If the initiative is tailored to a specific group, the rationale provided must be justifiable.
- Ability to build partnerships and collaborations with various departments and include the student voice.
- Preference for thoughtful, well-planned, evidence-based initiatives that are feasible to implement and evaluate, use SMART activities, tasks, deadlines, and budget, and can be sustained post-funding.

Processing and Agreement
- Proposals are reviewed through a small committee composed of diverse SAIT stakeholders, including students.
- Feedback will be provided to all applicants on their proposal.
- The review committee reserves the right to provide funding dependent on revisions from the applicant.

- Funding is competitive, and not all projects will be awarded funding.
- Each project submission is considered regardless of whether the applicant has been funded before.
- Applicants may submit more than one proposal.
