Northern BC fund moves to new summer-fall intake
The Northern BC Coaching and Officiating Development Fund guidelines now show courses and events occurring between August 1, 2026 and December 31, 2026, replacing the earlier Spring 2026 materials that covered May 1, 2026 to September 30, 2026. The application link text also changed to an opening notice, and the program listing now shows a Summer/Fall 2026 version of the fund, indicating a new intake period rather than the prior spring intake.

Who is eligible?
- Individuals who permanently reside in a northern community located within BC Games Zones 7 or 8 and are endorsed by their respective sport organization or association.
- Registered not-for-profit societies.
- Local Sport Organizations (LSOs) operating in a northern community within BC Games Zones 7 or 8 and affiliated and in good standing of a viaSport Designated Sport Organization.
- A viaSport Designated Sport Organization hosting a coaching or officiating course in a northern community located within BC Games Zones 7 or 8.

- Funding will not be allocated retroactively for courses and events occurring outside the province or the eligible event dates.

Selection criteria
- Merit of application.
- Scope of programming.
- Availability of funding.
- Equitable geographic or demographic distribution.
- Priority will be given to eligible applicants who have not previously received funding through the Northern BC Coaching and Officiating Development Fund in 2025; individuals are assessed on commitment to the development of sport and athletic achievement in Northern B.C., a plan for ongoing coaching/officiating development, and a letter of support for training/education by their respective sport organization; sport organizations are assessed on commitment to the development of sport and athletic achievement in northern B.C.
How to apply
- Complete the online application form.
- Create an account to apply, or use your existing account if you have applied through the online portal before.
- Save your application and return to it later if needed.
- Review your application before submission, as you will not be able to modify it after.
- Submit the application through the online portal by 5:00pm Pacific Time on August 31, 2026.
- Save the notification email confirming your submission.
Processing and Agreement
- Eligible applications are evaluated by a review panel consisting of sport sector experts.
- The panel bases their recommendations and funding level on the eligibility and assessment criteria described in these guidelines and guidance from viaSport, but reserves the right to recommend an application that falls outside of these guidelines if the project still supports the overall objective of the program.
- Applicants may be asked to provide additional supporting information at the discretion of viaSport staff or review panel.
- Successful candidates may be required to submit a post-grant report or survey, which may include how the funding was used, including receipts and invoices, grant cycle feedback.
- Approved awards will only be paid via direct deposit (EFT) after the grant letter is signed by the intended recipient; in the case of an event cancellation or rescheduling outside eligible dates, repayment of the grant funds will be required; any project funds not spent on eligible project expenses must be returned to viaSport.
