Overview

The Val-Saint-François Eco-responsible Fund provides a non-repayable contribution of up to $5,000 to help small businesses and non-profits implement concrete environmental initiatives on the MRC du Val-Saint-François territory. Eligible activities include purchasing durable equipment and completing tenant improvements that improve eco-responsible operations in areas such as resource management, residual materials management, GHG management, responsible consumption, awareness-raising, or the circular economy.

Activities funded

  • Purchase and implementation of durable equipment to make the organization’s operations more eco-responsible (e.g., equipment to transform/condition a residual material for better valorization, bulk sales containers, a customer reusable-container washing station).
  • Leasehold improvements that increase the eco-responsibility of the organization’s operations (e.g., redesigning a kitchen to enable organics recovery, creating a space that encourages repair).
  • Projects that promote responsible consumption and circular economy practices within the organization’s operations (linked to equipment acquisition or leasehold improvements).
  • Initiatives to improve residual materials management and resource management in the organization (linked to equipment acquisition or leasehold improvements).
  • Projects that support awareness-raising or greenhouse gas management efforts as part of operational changes (linked to equipment acquisition or leasehold improvements).

Eligibility

  • The applicant must be a private business or a social economy enterprise with fewer than 99 employees, or a non-profit organization (NPO).
  • The applicant must have been operating for at least 6 months.
  • The applicant must have and maintain a place of business in the MRC du Val-Saint-François.
  • The project must be carried out within the territory of the MRC du Val-Saint-François.
  • The project must address at least one of the following themes: awareness-raising, resource management, residual materials (waste) management, greenhouse gas management, responsible consumption, or the circular economy, and be related to acquiring durable equipment and/or making leasehold improvements that improve the organization’s eco-responsible operations.

  • Municipal organizations (municipal entities).
  • Organizations with 99 employees or more.

Eligible expenses

  • Purchase of equipment, materials, or other durable goods.
  • Installation of equipment, materials, or other durable goods when external expertise is required (e.g., electrician, plumber, carpenter).
  • External labour costs to carry out leasehold improvements.
  • Signage required for the proper operation of the project.

Eligible geographic areas

  • MRC du Val-Saint-François (projects must be carried out in this territory and applicants must maintain a place of business there).

  • Relevance and quality of the project in relation to eco-responsibility.
  • Technical feasibility (expertise, competence, and compliance with regulations).
  • Realism of the financial plan (budget/financing structure).
  • Positive environmental and social impact.

How to apply

Check organizational eligibility

  • Confirm your organization operates in the MRC du Val-Saint-François and has had a place of business there for at least 6 months
  • Ensure you are an eligible applicant: private company or social economy enterprise with fewer than 99 employees, or a non-profit organization (excluding municipal organizations)

Validate project eligibility

  • Ensure the project is carried out in the MRC du Val-Saint-François
  • Confirm it addresses at least one theme: awareness, resource management, residual materials management, GHG management, responsible consumption, or circular economy
  • Make sure it involves acquiring equipment and/or completing leasehold improvements that improve eco-responsibility

Confirm eligible expenses

  • Review eligible expenses: durable goods/equipment purchases, installation requiring external expertise, external labour for leasehold improvements, and required signage
  • Exclude non-eligible expenses such as costs incurred before acceptance, taxes, project advertising, contingency fees, and regular operating expenses

Build the financial plan

  • Determine the requested amount (non-repayable contribution of $500 to $5,000)
  • Apply the applicable aid rate: up to 50% for private companies (max 75% total aid); up to 75% for social economy enterprises and non-profits, including up to 10% in in-kind time
  • Plan to complete the project within 6 months of acceptance

Complete the application form

  • Download and complete the application form (Formulaire de demande)
  • Consult the fund policy (Politique du Fonds écoresponsable) to ensure compliance
  • Submit one application per applicant per year of fund operation

Submit the application

  • Submit the application; requests are accepted on a rolling basis until the annual budget is exhausted
  • Note that applications are analyzed in order of receipt
  • Expect an acknowledgement of receipt within one week of submission

Wait for the decision

  • The project’s admissibility is assessed by the circular economy coordinator
  • The internal eco-responsible committee reviews and approves projects
  • Receive a decision within a maximum of two months following submission

Receive funds and close out

  • If accepted, the grant is paid 50% at project acceptance
  • Receive the remaining 50% after submitting the end-of-project report and supporting documents (invoices, photos, and any other relevant documents)
  • Payments are made by bank transfer

Additional information

  • The fund has a total envelope of $85,000 distributed over three years (2023–2026), with an annual amount of $28,333.
  • Applications are accepted on an ongoing basis until the annual budget is exhausted, and are reviewed in the order received.
  • Applicants should expect an acknowledgement of receipt within one week of submitting their application, and a final decision within a maximum of two months.
  • Only one funding application may be submitted per applicant per year of the program’s operation.
