South Markham 2026 round now open
The South Markham Community Action Grants page now shows the 2026 round as open and adds updated round information, including that this is the second of three rounds of funding. The Resident/Grassroots Group Stream now shows grants from $5,000 to $20,000 with all projects due by August 31, 2027, and the Agency/Collaborative Stream now shows $25,000 to $75,000 for individual agency projects and $50,000 to $100,000 for collaborative projects, with all projects due by May 31, 2028. The page also now states that the total funds available in this phase are up to $400,000 and that agencies must request access to the SMA grant application portal before 5 pm on September 4, 2026 by email to CAG@uwgt.org. Ineligible Costs and Activities
- Partisan political activities, including the direct or indirect promotion of a political candidate or party
- Religious activities, except for Indigenous cultural and/or spiritual activities
- Gift cards or honoraria for project leaders or participants in total of more than 50% of the requested budget
- Major capital costs, including building construction, retrofitting, expansion, and large-scale appliance or vehicle purchases
- Fines and penalties, alcoholic beverages, membership fees in clubs and organizations, maintaining existing services, fundraising activities, and costs related to activities or purchases before the CAG contract start date

Selection criteria
- A clear and compelling case grounded in a demonstrated community need or opportunity
- Capacity to carry out project and community building activities
- Meaningful opportunities for resident leadership and participation
- Alignment with the relevant Grant Focus Areas
- Priority will be given to projects that align with actions in local plans, demonstrate engagement with local residents and partners, and centre priority populations such as Indigenous, Black, or structurally disadvantaged groups
How to apply
- Agencies must request access to SurveyMonkey Apply by emailing CAG@uwgt.org with the subject line South Markham CAG – SMA Set Up by Friday September 4, 2026 at 5:00 PM.
- Resident/Grassroots Group applicants can download the application from the United Way website or request it by emailing CAG@uwgt.org.
- Applicants must complete the application in Microsoft Word format or through SurveyMonkey Apply, depending on the stream.
- Applications must be submitted by email to CAG@uwgt.org for the Resident/Grassroots Group stream or through SurveyMonkey Apply for the Agency/Collaborative stream by Friday September 11, 2026 at 5:00 PM.
Processing and Agreement
- Agencies must first contact United Way Greater Toronto to confirm eligibility before accessing SurveyMonkey Apply.
- Eligible agencies will be granted access to the online application portal.
- The Review Committee will provide the slate of recommended projects to UWGT for final approval.
- Successful grantees will be confirmed by November 2026.
- Grantees are expected to submit an interim and a final report and may need to participate in evaluation processes developed by funders or tables connected to the South Markham Community Action Plan.
