Eligibility

Who is eligible?

Eligible expenses

  • Direct project expenses and supplies
  • Honoraria for volunteers, resident leaders, facilitators, speakers, and performers
  • Outreach costs, including promotion, advertising, communications, and flyers
  • Food for participants, event space rental, permits or approval fees, online platform fees, training or capacity building costs, staffing costs, evaluation and report creation costs, minor capital costs, and other participant or volunteer barrier reduction costs
  • Trustee administrative costs

Ineligible Costs and Activities

  • Partisan political activities, including direct or indirect promotion of a political candidate or party
  • Religious activities, except for Indigenous cultural and/or spiritual activities
  • Major capital costs such as building construction, retrofitting, expansion, large-scale appliance purchases, or vehicle purchases
  • Fines and penalties, alcoholic beverages, membership fees in clubs and organizations, maintaining existing services, and fundraising activities
  • Costs related to activities or purchases before the CAG contract start date

Eligible geographic areas

  • Cooksville neighbourhood boundaries: Mavis Road (west), Burnhamthorpe Road West (north), Hurontario Street and Cawthra Road (east), and the Queen Elizabeth Way (QEW) to the south.

Selection criteria

  • A clear and compelling case grounded in a demonstrated community need or opportunity.
  • Capacity to carry out project and community building activities.
  • Meaningful opportunities for resident leadership and participation.
  • Alignment with the relevant Grant Focus Areas.
  • Priority is given to projects that align with local plans, demonstrate resident and partner engagement, show support from diverse groups, connect to neighbourhood development, and centre priority populations.

How to apply

  • Resident/Grassroots Group applicants should download the application form from the United Way website or request it by emailing CAG@uwgt.org.
  • Agency/Collaborative applicants must first contact United Way Greater Toronto at CAG@uwgt.org to confirm eligibility and request access to SurveyMonkey Apply.
  • Agency access requests must be sent by 5 pm on September 4, 2026 with the subject line Cooksville CAG – SMA Set Up.
  • Applications must be submitted by email to CAG@uwgt.org for resident/grassroots groups, or through SurveyMonkey Apply for agencies and collaboratives, by September 11, 2026 at 5:00 PM.

Processing and Agreement

  • Applications are reviewed by a Review Committee and recommended to United Way Greater Toronto for final approval.
  • Successful grantees will be confirmed by November 2026.
  • Resident/grassroots grantees must work with Indus Community Services as trustee and complete all reporting requirements.
  • Agency/collaborative grantees must submit interim and final reports.

Additional information

  • The 2026 round is the second of three rounds of funding for Cooksville Community Action Grants.
  • Applicants are welcome to re-apply in future rounds if their projects are not funded in Fall 2026.
  • The third and final round of funding will become available in 2027.
