Eligibility

Who is eligible?

  • Registered charities or qualified donees, including municipalities
  • Organizations that are not registered charities or qualified donees if a formal partner with charitable status and a formal agreement are included as part of a complete application
  • Indigenous led organizations
  • Organizations with Indigenous representation at different levels, programs delivered by Indigenous people, or formal protocols with Indigenous communities

Who is not eligible

  • Organizations engaged in multiple activities that might redistribute Foundation funds to other organizations
  • Religious organizations where the funds would be used to further the organization’s religious purposes
  • Organizations with any overdue reporting may be ineligible to apply to or receive new funds from the Foundation
  • Organizations that answer NO to more than one of the Indigenous-community criteria may not be eligible for this grant deadline

Ineligible Costs and Activities

  • Projects that primarily benefit individuals, such as scholarships
  • Capital campaigns, endowments, contingencies, operating or deficit financing
  • Fundraising, advertising or marketing activities
  • Projects for religious or political purposes, or projects that promote discrimination or do not comply with the Foundation policy
  • Projects that do not advance the Calls to Action in the areas of Education, Culture and/or Language, or projects normally financed by public tax funds or that appear to be sufficiently funded

Selection criteria

  • Grants are made based on need and the availability of funding.

How to apply

  • Submissions are to be made to the Foundation by using our Online Grant Portal.
  • Create a login profile with your contact information and that of your organization.
  • Download and complete the required Grant Budget & Cost Form.
  • Have ready your Financial Statements and Annual Report (if available) to upload as part of a complete application.
  • Ensure any other pertinent materials that you wish to include as part of your application are ready to upload in electronic form.
  • Before applying, please read the application guidelines, and contact the Foundation to confirm eligibility.

Processing and Agreement

  • Applications are assessed by the Truth & Reconciliation Fund Committee, and decisions are approved by the Foundations Board of Directors.
  • Decisions and notifications regarding applications are typically provided no later than 60 days after the deadline has closed.
  • The Foundation may request further details, if required.
  • All Foundation decisions regarding an application and interpretations of guidelines and policies are final.
