How to apply

Verify organizational eligibility

  • Confirm your organization is a Canadian registered charity with a valid CRA number
  • Ensure programming will be delivered in Canada
  • Verify your organization has strong understanding of Canadian Armed Forces serving members, Veterans and their families

Align project with fund priorities

  • Align your project with one or more priority themes: mental health and wellbeing, military and Veteran families (including children and youth), or programs leveraging Military Family Resource Centres
  • Ensure the program directly supports serving members, Veterans or their families
  • Develop clear objectives and a measurement plan

Prepare safeguarding and evidence documentation

  • Develop a safeguarding policy that includes background checks for staff working with vulnerable populations
  • Implement trauma-informed practices in program delivery
  • Prepare evidence-based program documentation

Prepare financial documentation

  • Create a detailed budget with supporting financial documents
  • Include annual report and previous funding application status
  • Document other formal funding partnerships

Develop sustainability plan

  • Develop a sustainability strategy explaining how the program will continue after grant funding ends
  • Include resource assessment covering environment, human resources and industry factors

Submit grant application

  • Submit application or Letter of Intent through True Patriot Love website
  • Ensure all required information is complete including program description, beneficiary numbers and geographic area
  • Include impact reporting and communication strategy

Await application review and decision

  • Application is reviewed by Fund Partners, Disbursement Advisory Committee and Board of Directors
  • Board meets quarterly and makes final approval decisions
  • Wait for notification in April for decision on application

Processing and Agreement

  • Applications reviewed in consultation with Fund Partners and Disbursement Advisory Committee
  • Board of Directors approval required for disbursement
  • Board meets quarterly
  • Decisions communicated in April 2026
  • Funding agreement required before disbursement

Additional information

  • Successful applicants must participate in a verbal interim impact meeting and submit a written final impact report.
  • Funding supports activities between April 1, 2026 and March 31, 2027.
  • Applications reviewed in consultation with Fund Partners, Disbursement Advisory Committee, and Board of Directors.
