Who is eligible?
- Native American tribal governments (Federally recognized)
Who is not eligible
- Tribes that have not brought past due reports up to date within the 30-day period after notification are ineligible and excluded from further consideration in the FY 2026 TWG Program cycle.
- If multiple applications from the same Tribe exceed a total combined Federal request of $200,000, any application beyond the highest-scoring application(s) is ineligible.

Ineligible Costs and Activities
- Land acquisitions are not allowed.
- TWG Program funds may not be used to acquire real property interests, including fee simple, fee with exceptions to title, easements, water rights, mineral rights, and leaseholds.
Selection criteria
- Resource Benefit — maximum 30 points.
- Performance Measures — maximum 18 points.
- Work Plan — maximum 10 points; Budget — maximum 10 points.
- Capacity Building — maximum 20 points.
- Outreach, Partnership, and Data Sharing — maximum 12 points; if applications tie, Resource Benefit is used first, then Capacity Building, then Performance Measures.
How to apply
- Submit the application by GrantSolutions, Grants.gov, email, or mail to the appropriate regional office.
- For Grants.gov, create a Workspace.
- Complete the Workspace, invite participants, check for errors, and submit through Sign and Submit.
- For GrantSolutions, register the organization, assign system user roles, log in through Login.gov, and find the funding opportunity to apply.
- If submitting by email or mail, use the appropriate Regional Office email address or mailing address for your region and submit by the due date.
Processing and Agreement
- Applications are checked for timely submission, completed packages, and alignment with the announcement requirements.
- Regional Review Team members score eligible applications independently using the published merit review criteria.
- Regional program staff average the scores to develop regionally ranked project lists.
- First Tier applications bypass the national scoring process and are placed on the recommended list.
- Final award recommendations are presented to the Service Director for concurrence and approval.

- The Tribal Wildlife Grants Program is part of the Congressionally authorized State and Tribal Wildlife Grants (STWG) Program.
- It is a separate competitive grant program for Tribes and is not subject to the provisions or other requirements of the STWG Program.
