Who is not eligible
- Veterans whose physical or mental health problem resulted primarily from service in the CAF on or before April 1, 1947, or from service in the Korean War
- Veterans whose physical or mental health problem was caused by a willful self-inflicted injury or improper conduct
- Serving CAF members who have not yet released
Eligible expenses
- Medical, nursing, and related care services.
- Assistive daily-living items, specialized equipment, and prescription drugs.
- Dental, audiology, and vision services.
- Some health-related travel costs.
Ineligible Costs and Activities
- Veterans whose physical or mental health problem resulted primarily from service in the CAF on or before April 1, 1947, or from service in the Korean War.
- Health problems caused by willful self-inflicted injury or improper conduct.
Eligible geographic areas
- No residency in Canada is required for Veteran eligibility
Processing and Agreement
- The Department may waive the application requirement if it believes the person may be eligible based on information already collected.
- The Department may require medical examinations or assessments to determine continued entitlement.
- Failure to undergo a required medical examination or assessment may lead to suspension or cancellation after 30 days.
- For survivors and orphans, the Department determines eligibility based on disability benefits in respect of death decisions under the Pension Act or Part 3 of the Veterans Well-being Act.
