Who is eligible?
- Local governments.
- First Nation communities or organizations.
- Organizations working in partnership with a local government or First Nation community.
- TransLink or BC Ferries.
- Ministry of Transportation and Transit Regional/District Offices, other provincial ministries, and other organizations at the program’s discretion.
Ineligible Costs and Activities
- Vehicle purchases.
- Ongoing operating costs such as regular staff costs.
- Projects eligible for the BC Transit Shelter Program that are located on municipal right of way.
Selection criteria
- Preference is given to projects located on MOTT Right-of-Way and supported by the appropriate MOTT Regional or District Office.
- Applications are stronger when the proposed project supports one or more of the Program Objectives.
- The application form should be fully completed and include all relevant information, including supporting documents such as maps and design plans if applicable.
- Applications are stronger when the project has received the appropriate endorsements from transportation agencies and local governments or other partners.
How to apply
- Review the guide and complete the Transit Minor Betterments Application Form.
- Submit the TMB Application to transitminorbetterments@gov.bc.ca.
- CTPB reviews the submitted materials and approves or rejects the application, then communicates the decision to the applicant.
Processing and Agreement
- CTPB reviews the submitted materials and approves or rejects the application, then communicates the decision to the applicant.
- For approved projects, CTPB drafts a Letter of Agreement setting out terms and conditions, roles and responsibilities, and reporting requirements, to be signed by both parties.
- A Certificate of Insurance form must be completed by the applicant’s insurer, and required agreements and insurance must be in place and approved before work commences.
- Recipients must submit adequate reporting documentation after project completion for review and approval by CTPB before funding is issued.
- For projects managed by a MOTT Regional or District Office, a document is provided in place of a Letter of Agreement.
Additional information
- The program is administered by the Clean Transportation & Programs Branch at the B.C. Ministry of Transportation and Transit.
- Projects for transit shelters on municipal land are encouraged to apply for the BC Transit Shelter Program.
- Projects located on highway right-of-ways may require permits and licensing to carry out the work.
- Projects delivered by third parties on MOTT Right-of-Way may require additional permits, licenses, confirmation of insurance, and agreements.
