Training Grant: DSEN Training Grant

• CIHR Common CV for up to 10 key applicants, including the Nominated Principal Applicant and at least three mentors.
• Financial Assistance Requested Details document with a full justification for all budget items.
• Organizational chart showing the program management structure and governance, including the Program Advisory Committee (PAC).
• Table of all applicants with primary affiliation and provinces in separate columns, clearly identifying mentor roles; letters of support from host institution(s) and partners, and Dean letters where graduate student or postdoctoral training is included.
• Signed signature pages including the routing slip.

Who is eligible?

• Independent researchers may apply as the Nominated Principal Applicant and Program Leader.
• Independent researchers may participate as mentors, co-applicants, or principal applicants on the application.

Eligible expenses

• Program operations.
• Stipends for research trainees.

Ineligible Costs and Activities

• Tuition as a separate budget item; it must be covered through the trainee stipend.
• Conducting research or supporting research expenses, including research allowance and publication costs.

• Excellence, Innovation and Approaches.
• Mentors.
• Collaborative Research.
• Recruitment, Tracking and Evaluation, Governance, and Institutional Support and Long-Term Sustainability.
• Applications that receive a rating below 3.5 will not be funded.

• Successful applicants and any other persons working on the project must comply fully with CIHR Funding Policies.
• CIHR and DSEN Partners may communicate with the Program Advisory Committee throughout the program through the Program Leader.
• The successful applicant may be required to actively participate in DSEN activities supporting the network, including advisory committees and Knowledge Translation events organized by the DSEN Coordinating Office.
• The Nominated Principal Applicant must submit an electronic Final Report to CIHR.
• The Nominated Principal Applicant must submit a progress report in year 3 summarizing outcomes and describing how grant funds were used.

• Applicants are encouraged to demonstrate the use of Gender and Sex-Based Analysis in applications.
• CIHR encourages researchers to involve citizens where appropriate and to describe how they intend to involve them when applicable.
• Applicants are encouraged to consider the inclusion of Official Languages and Official Language Minority Communities in their research where appropriate.
• CIHR encourages applicants to submit proposals in the Official Language of their choice and commits to ensuring high quality review in either official language.
