Eligibility

Who is eligible?

  • Community, not-for-profit, and/or charitable community organizations

Who is not eligible

  • Businesses
  • Organizations with political affiliations
  • Faith-based organizations
  • School boards and educational institutions
  • Regional, provincial, or national organizations unless they have a local chapter serving Township residents
  • Programs within legislative mandates of other governments, including Township departments

Eligible expenses

  • Capital projects and associated expenses
  • Operating expenses in certain circumstances, such as support for fundraising events or volunteer engagement
  • Municipal facility rentals
  • Facility user group insurance

Ineligible Costs and Activities

  • Expenses already incurred
  • Accumulated deficits or funding shortfalls
  • Costs not in keeping with the spirit of the Grant Allocation Policy, at the discretion of Council

Selection criteria

  • Preference is given to organizations that demonstrate community support, efficient use of resources, sound business practices, enhance volunteer knowledge, and develop skills and self-reliance.
  • Applications are scored using an Evaluation Matrix with criteria including Project Merit, Community Impact and Involvement, Economic Impact, Sustainability, Organizational Effectiveness, and Other Considerations.
  • Scores from the three evaluators are averaged and funding recommendations are made based on the application scores.

How to apply

  • Submit the application using the online form on the Township website.
  • You may also download a PDF application form and submit it by email to directorcbs@townshipleeds.on.ca.
  • Alternatively, the application may be delivered in person or by mail to the Township of Leeds and the Thousand Islands, 1233 Prince Street, Lansdowne K0E 1L0, Attn: Director of Community and Business Services.
  • Applications and supporting documentation must be completed and submitted in full before the grant deadline.

Processing and Agreement

  • All applications are reviewed by the Evaluation Advisory Team for compliance with the eligibility criteria.
  • Incomplete forms will not be considered.
  • Scores from the three evaluators are averaged and funding recommendations are made based on the application scores.
  • Applications are forwarded as a Staff Report to Committee of the Whole for recommendation to Council.
  • Applicants are notified by mail or email.
  • Successful applicants may be invited to attend a meeting of Council for a cheque presentation.
  • Successful organizations must report outcomes and financial spending details by March 31st of each year, with invoices or other proof of payment required.

Additional information

  • There are two intake periods each year: April and September.
  • Applications must be submitted before 4:30pm on the deadline date.
  • Successful applicants may be invited to attend a meeting of Council for a cheque presentation.
  • A hold back of 10% may be applied until the Final Report is received.
