Eligibility

Who is eligible?

  • Property owners in the Town of Caledon
  • Owners of designated heritage properties under Part IV or Part V of the Ontario Heritage Act
  • Non-profit or community groups responsible for maintaining a government-owned designated heritage property

Who is not eligible

  • Owners of properties that are not designated heritage properties
  • Owners of non-contributing properties in a heritage conservation district
  • Government-owned properties, unless maintained by a non-profit or community group
  • Properties already approved for a heritage property tax rebate for the same year

Eligible expenses

  • Labour, materials, and equipment for eligible heritage work
  • Architectural and engineering drawings
  • Feasibility studies
  • Paid invoices and receipts supporting project costs

Ineligible Costs and Activities

  • Work that does not conserve heritage attributes
  • New additions or contemporary extensions
  • Interior renovations, unless interior heritage attributes are identified
  • Work already started or completed, unless pre-approved as emergency or phased work
  • Repairs or upgrades required by by-law, standards, or enforcement orders

Processing and Agreement

  • Applications are screened for completeness by Heritage staff.
  • Eligible applications are reviewed by the Grant Review Group and then by Council.
  • Applicants are notified of Council’s decision by email or letter.
  • Funding is released only after the work is completed, inspected, and paid invoices are submitted.

  • Pre-consultation with Heritage staff is encouraged before applying.
  • Special Project applicants must complete pre-consultation before applying.
  • Applicants may need a site visit during review.
