Breakthrough Jazz Artist Award 2027 guidelines updated
The 2027 Breakthrough Jazz Artist Award guidelines now show a nomination deadline of November 3, 2026. The updated rules also state that only the first eligible nomination will be accepted when multiple nominations are submitted for the same individual or organization, and they now address nominations for collectives and organizations as well as individuals. The application instructions and supporting-material guidance have been revised in the award description and eligibility PDF, and the awards contact email is now awards@torontoarts.org.

Who is eligible?
- Individuals who perform jazz and jazz-influenced music.
- Toronto-based jazz artists with two to seven years of experience in the field.
- Artists who previously devoted their career to supporting other artists and are now able to focus on their own solo work.
Who is not eligible
- Undergraduate and college students pursuing degrees in music.
- People serving as executive board member or staff of Toronto Arts Foundation or Toronto Arts Council.
- Nominees submitted for more than one Toronto Arts Award in a given year, where only the first eligible nomination is accepted.

- Register an account on Toronto Arts Foundation’s Nomination Portal or sign into your existing account.
- Submit the nomination online, complete with supporting material.
Processing and Agreement
- Nominations are reviewed by an award panel selected by the Award Manager.
- The panel recommends a shortlist and a recipient for final approval by Toronto Arts Foundation’s Board of Directors.
- The shortlist is made public before the awards presentation.
- The recipient is announced on the day of the official awards presentation.

- The award is presented annually in partnership with the TD Toronto Jazz Festival.
